Support for Windows 7 has ended

Microsoft has (finally) ceased providing support, maintenance and security updates for the popular operating system, Windows 7 from Tuesday the 14th January 2020.

For current users of Windows 7, fortunately this does not mean that your Windows 7 device will stop working. But industry experts, including us at ServiceScaler, are warning users that the longer you choose to continue using the platform, the greater your risk of infection by viruses and malware.

Thankfully, there are many options available to move away from the Windows 7 platform, each requiring investment into newer, better technology.

  1. Complete an in place upgrade to Windows 10

Microsoft still supports in place upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. You simply need to purchase a Windows 10 licence and complete the in place upgrade. This means you will retain all your physical computer, your files and your software applications

  2. Upgrade to a new computer

If you are using Windows 7, chances are you haven't upgraded your hardware in a few years. With a suggested three year hardware technology life-cycle, it might be time to consider replacing the entire device with a newer, faster, and more capable device
